Why You Should Learn Every Day

“That is what learning is. You suddenly understand something you’ve understood all your life, but in a new way.” – Doris Lessing. Imagine your mind as a storage hard disk that can store information. We store information in our mind when we learn new things. Whenever we learn we help our mind run a program that helps us understand the world in a better way ! Is this reason not good enough to keep learning ?

Learning Process

In this section, I am going to discuss how we learn in different stages of our life. Learning process starts right from the birth and continues throughout our life. A child begins to learn some very basic tasks just after the birth. Basic learning starts with learning to suck a nipple and taking the very first feed to learning to walk and speak. Parents and the family act as the first level teachers for the kids in early stages of development.

The next level of learning takes place in schools and universities. Here, we acquire some new abilities and skills. When we are at school we learn about languages, numbers, natural laws, etc. However, when we are at the college or university we acquire specific vocational skills that may help us in choosing our career path.

Learning Never Stops

“Those people who develop the ability to continuously acquire new and better forms of knowledge that they can apply to their work and to their lives will be the movers and shakers in our society for the indefinite future.” – Brain Tracy. By nature, we continue to learn every day. But, what we choose to learn matters a lot! Even after we are done with graduating from the most prestigious college or university our mind still has enough storage capacity to learn new things or to learn the old things in different ways! Can you imagine a computer with free unlimited storage capacity ? Say thanks as you did not have to pay for it 🙂

There are some skills that we continue to learn to develop better understanding on a subject. We may also acquire some new abilities if we choose to change our career path. I agree that if a student is curious there are infinite ways to learn. However, for the sake of simplicity and to avoid readers reading a lengthy article I am mentioning two broad categories of the learning process:

  • Self-learning: You can understand it by imagining a situation wherein you are facing some health issues and instead of going to see a doctor you become a doctor yourself ! This method requires serious devotion and clarity about your mission since there will be no one to guide you on your path.
  • Learning with a guru: This is the most common method of learning. In this approach a learner learns from the experience of a mentor/teacher who is an expert in his/her own domain. If you learn through reading books you have one guru (author) or many gurus depending upon whose book(s) you are using to acquire certain abilities/skills/understanding about a subject.

Online Learning: the new normal

The current pandemic crisis has hit every aspect of our lives. With the new normal, conventional learning (learning in schools/ universities/ institutes/libraries) has become quite impossible. Teachers are also finding it hard to gather students due to lockdown or social distancing measures. My Learning Guru has made it a mission to make learning accessible to all by providing a simple online learning platform. If the current situation is becoming a barrier between you and your learning goals it is now time to find an online guru at !
